The reasons why NBA players despise Dillon Brooks, and why he’s being punished yet more

Dillon Brooks is the newest villain in the NBA, and his actions may have just lost him another game.

Forward Dillon Brooks of the Memphis Grizzlies has had quite a month. Not that Brooks hasn’t caused a stir all season, most notably with his feud against Warriors guard Klay Thompson, but he’s really upped the ante in the last month, and it seems like he’s likely to get suspended again.

After a month-long shoving match with Donovan Mitchell, Brooks rolled over and punched Mitchell in the most sensitive spot you can hit a man in. It was because of this that Mitchell made this statement at the news conference following the game.

Since the Grizzlies victory against the Warriors, the rivalry between Brooks and Thompson has continued. In his reply to Thompson, Brooks mentioned that he, too, possesses four rings.

‘I basically hold a lot of real estate over there in San Francisco,’ Brooks said in response.

Moreover, Thompson made sure everyone understood that after Brooks’ retirement, he would be forgotten.

Brooks’ antics aren’t just directed at the other team’s players. Brooks chased a loose ball near the sidelines during the Grizzlies’ game against the Heat and ended up tumbling out of bounds into a cameraman. As the photographer fell, did Brooks try to help him up? So, you’re saying I should just ignore him and carry on playing? In fact, Brooks thought it would be funny to push the cameraman over, which apparently resulted in some injuries.

Here we go again with another instance of Brooks being Brooks, which will result in a suspension of at least one more game this time. When going up for a dunk during the Grizzlies’ defeat to the Mavericks, Brooks mocked the Dallas bench.

Most players wouldn’t mind doing this so much, except that it may result in a free point for the opposite team. It’s probably not a good idea to taunt the other team’s bench in front of the referee, especially if you’re Brooks, who was just suspended for a game after collecting his 16th technical.

As players are first suspended for tech number 16 and every two after that, Brooks will miss the Grizzlies’ upcoming game against the Rockets on Wednesday unless the NBA overturns the technical, which it won’t. It is an understatement to say that Brooks admitted to the media that he needs to ease down on the technicals.

At the postgame handshakes after the Mavericks’ victory against the Grizzlies, Kyrie Irving appears to be taunting. It appears like Irving and Brooks are trading jerseys, but Irving doesn’t look too eager to take Brooks’s.

Fair enough, Irving claims he wasn’t trying to cause trouble and was distracted at the moment, but you have to agree it’s fairly funny given how many incidents Brooks has been a part of in the past month.

This isn’t even close to being the full list; if I went back another year or two, I’d have to turn this into a miniseries. But one thing is certain: Brooks has no plans to slow down any time soon. With the playoffs fast approaching, it’s only a matter of time until we see Brooks embroiled in yet another fight, spat, or shoving struggle.
